Adventure, exploration, learning — everything that a school camp should offer.
Welcome to The Priory, Victoria's favourite school camp venue, located in beautiful Beechworth, North East Victoria.
For more than 30 years The Priory has hosted students of all ages from across Victoria and New South Wales.
What makes The Priory unique?
Steeped in history, the former convent is a building that boasts old charm and beauty. Combined with clean, fresh facilities and unique and engaging learning programs we ensure an enriching and exciting experience for each student that stays with us.
Experience has shown us over the years that a school camp is among the most memorable experiences of a student’s school life.
The feedback we have received repeatedly during our time as school camp operaters, is that The Priory is warm and welcoming and the staff are flexible and willing to cater to the individual needs of each school group. The staff work tirelessly on every aspect of your camp from creating an itinerary packed with exciting and fun activities, to nutritious and tasty meals, to ensuring all facilities are clean and comfortable.
We employ a fully qualified chef who delivers a menu that is delicious, hearty and healthy. We can also cater to special dietary requirements (surcharge may apply)
All facilities at The Priory are located under one roof, which makes it easy and straightforward to co-ordinate and organize the daily routine and provides a safe environment for students and teachers.
The Priory is centrally located, within the town, which enables easy access to the town attractions.
There are stunning gardens for use all-year round including barbecue facilities.
In winter we have wood fires burning which create a cosy and relaxing atmosphere.
We truly want you to feel that The Priory is a home away from home.
The Priory is a fully accredited ATAP establishment.
What does The Priory Offer?
AusVels link - Primary and Junior Secondary History
Beechworth is well-known for it's connection to the Kelly Gang and the story of the infamous Bushranger, Ned Kelly, arguably one of the most famous Australians to have lived.
It is also one of Victoria's most prosperous towns in the time of the Gold Rush.
These significant periods of our history, form part of the current History AusVELS curriculum framework. At The Priory, we offer your students the opportunity to action their learning through a comprehensive and fun-filled camp package. They can experience first-hand some of the places, artefacts and people associated with these important periods of our Australian History. Fun and learning hand in hand!
We have tailored packages available for these camps.
Drama, music and Art
Aus Vels link - Primary and Secondary Arts
In the early days of The Priory, when it operated as a school, it was well-known for it's music and drama programs. Many former students fondly remember performances in the "Concert Hall" . This room still exists today. It is complete with a stage and large space for audience seating. We can also arrange sound and lighting facilities if required. This creates a perfect setting for music, drama or dance camps. There are many other break-out rooms available for rehearsals and workshops.
Retreats, Discovery Program, Orientation and Transition
Aus Vels Link - Interpersonal and Personal learning - Middle and Senior Secondary
We know that school camps provide the ultimate environment for development and growth in the areas of personal and interpersonal learning. The students and teachers form and develop their relationship with one another and discover and grown within themselves.
We can also provide data projectors and whiteboards for sessions.
The Great Outdoors
AusVels Link - Secondary Outdoor Education
Beechworth is located in one of the most stunning parts of our country. It provides many opportunities for outdoors activities that will stimulate and invigorate your students. The Rail Trail bike ride, endless bushwalks and adventure activities all within close reach.
Sustainability - Greener Grass Collective
With the collaboration between The Priory & Greener Grass Collective earlier this year, we are now pleased to Introduce our new Sustainability Program, bringing fresh learning opportunities, expanding upon the current offering of Historical & Cultural Educational Camps.
Greener Grass is a thoughtfully-constructed school camp program, offering students the opportunity to have a hands-on experience, learning about the importance of our environment, focusing on sustainable food production.
Action-packed adventure, easy-going exploration or relaxing retreat. Whatever the tempo of your school camp, The Priory will package an experience to delight.
We'd love to give you and your students a camp you will all remember for a lifetime.
Over the past several years, our School Music Rehearsal Camps have been held at The Priory, Beechworth. The location of the venue in respect to ease of getting there from Melbourne is ideal, an easy transport drive from our school.
The real asset of the venue is that it is totally indoors. If the weather is inclement, there are no wet or muddy shoes and clothing to deal with. The indoor areas are spacious so students never get cramped if weather keeps them inside. The numerous rehearsal rooms are large and acoustically generous. The close proximity (3 minute walk) the town of Beechworth gives great respite from the intense nature of music rehearsals.
The food and meal breaks are excellent, great ‘home made’ morning and afternoon snacks for the students and staff and no special dietary requirement is ever too much to cater for: Diabetic, Coeliac, Vegetarian or Vegan, Halal and no Pork requests have never been an issue. The students always comment on the great food. For senior students who need to complete there are very good study areas to isolate.
The most important thing always is the venue staff, the staff at The Priory are always available and always helpful to any requests that you make of them. I fully endorse this venue if you are looking for a great country music rehearsal camp venue.
Stephen Carpenter - Head of Music
The staff at the Old Priory are friendly, helpful, organised and take care of the many options available during the camp. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, who are welcoming and very professional!
Bookings for excursions from the camp site are managed by the staff. Students are cared for with regard to special dietary means and nothing is too much trouble. The town's folk are extremely hospitable and the weather is always GREAT!!
