Testimonials

My home away from home! I try and visit 2 - 3 times a year. Either solo or with my partner, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The best location in town, yet just off the main drag and quiet. The Priory is a historic gem and a comfortable, friendly and generous place to stay. The shared facilities are kept immaculate and are so numerous that you will feel like they are your own private bathrooms most of the time. The family and staff are wonderful and should be congratulated and thanked for maintaining this treasure of Beechworth!

Last week (July 2023) I took 60 secondary school students and six staff to stay at the Old Priory for our music tour.

Angela and Remo ensured we had an excellent stay in this historic building; their communication was excellent throughout our three night stay.

The dorms and smaller rooms for the students were good and clean, and the separate rooms for each staff member spacious and comfortable. Hot showers, good food (lots of it!), support for film night, all take away lunches prepared for us. Middle of winter, but never were we cold, even in a very old building with very high ceilings. We even staged a concert in the concert room!

Perfect location for Beechworth and surrounding area. We’ll be back for sure.

We love getting letters from the kids that attend our school camps. It's lovely they take the time to let us know how the experience at the Priory made them feel. Especially when they include such wonderful drawings.

Some excellent feedback too, particularly about the "amazing" food:

"Thank you for having me and my class at the Priory and being the best school camp I have been to" - Year 6 student

"Staying at the Priory has inspired me to eat more meals because the meals at the Priory were delicious and saying that is very rare since I'm a picky eater" - Phoebe (grade 5)

"We had so much fun and the food was the best I have ever had before and I learnt a lot of new things" - Student (grade 6)

"The food was amazing and so was the amount of kindness to all the students that you had showed" - Joshua

Dear Angela and Remo,

On behalf of Cardross Primary School I would like to thank you for looking after us for the week. We really appreciate it. You were so friendly and spent a lot of time making sure we felt happy and comfortable in the Priory.

Thank you for making sure we loved our food. It takes a lot of time and effort to make homemade meals every day for so many children and you guys did an excellent job every single day. As well as making breakfast, lunch and dinner, you spent time and effort making us morning and afternoon tea so thank you. So thank you to the amazing chefs!

Thank you for the amazing facilities like the recreation room and our bedrooms. We really appreciate the projector so we could watch the movie Shrek, also we really liked playing table-tennis. Our rooms were clean, that is, until we unpacked and they were nice and warm since.

Thank you for organising some activities like the campfire and history talk with Ian and also the movie night. So thanks for putting up with us for the week, and making it a week to remember forever! Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Grade 5/6

Hi Angela and Remo,

Thank you so much for camp this week, we’ve absolutely loved it.  We appreciated your relaxed and friendly manner.  You have been so helpful and obliging, giving us free reign of your beautiful building to rehearse and make music in.  The kids loved it.  There was a lot of discussion about ‘next time’ on the bus on the way home and we’d love to return.

Thanks again,

Over the past several years, our School Music Rehearsal Camps have been held at The Priory, Beechworth. The location of the venue in respect to ease of getting there from Melbourne is ideal, an easy transport drive from our school.

The real asset of the venue is that it is totally indoors. If the weather is inclement, there are no wet or muddy shoes and clothing to deal with. The indoor areas are spacious so students never get cramped if weather keeps them inside. The numerous rehearsal rooms are large and acoustically generous. The close proximity (3 minute walk) the town of Beechworth gives great respite from the intense nature of music rehearsals.

The food and meal breaks are excellent, great ‘home made’ morning and afternoon snacks for the students and staff and no special dietary requirement is ever too much to cater for: Diabetic, Coeliac, Vegetarian or Vegan, Halal and no Pork requests have never been an issue. The students always comment on the great food. For senior students who need to complete there are very good study areas to isolate.

The most important thing always is the venue staff, the staff at The Priory are always available and always helpful to any requests that you make of them. I fully endorse this venue if you are looking for a great country music rehearsal camp venue.

The staff at the Old Priory are friendly, helpful, organised and take care of the many options available during the camp.  Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, who are welcoming and very professional!

Bookings for excursions from the camp site are managed by the staff.  Students are cared for with regard to special dietary means and nothing is too much trouble.  The town's folk are extremely hospitable and the weather is always GREAT!!
